Part of the Academy\u2019s global talent development and education work, the Gold Fellowship for Women is a one-year program that combines support, personalized mentorship and access to once-in-a-lifetime networking opportunities for emerging women filmmakers to further their pursuits in the field of cinema. As part of the Academy\u2019s global focus and outreach, the Academy awards two fellowships annually, one to a U.S.-based filmmaker and one to a non-U.S.-based filmmaker. The fellowship is presented in partnership with CHANEL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cChampioning and inspiring new generations of global filmmakers is core to the Academy\u2019s mission, and we\u2019re thrilled to continue this work through the Gold Fellowship for Women. We are incredibly grateful for the generous support of our partner CHANEL, which shares our commitment to nurturing talented women filmmakers and opening doors to meaningful opportunities in the film industry,\u201d said Kim Taylor-Coleman, Academy governor and president of the Academy Foundation Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fellows also receive ongoing career advancement support through the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/click.mail.oscars.org\/?qs=5c84f3806051aec96ec558bad04fa6e32c7aa37cbf4ec874dc75b21bcee6ced5c3fe2d44e4826ed5a649fa85c28875f87d214dc6ad7b768c\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Academy Gold Alumni Network&nbsp;<\/a>, which provides continued access, opportunity, professional development and education for alumni of the Academy\u2019s talent development programs. Applicants to the Gold Fellowship for Women must be alumnae of an Academy talent development program or be nominated by an Academy talent development partner company to be eligible for the U.S. fellowship. Non-U.S. applicants must be recommended by a member of a key film organization, production company or international festival to be considered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simone is a Ukrainian-born journalist and award-winning filmmaker whose work has appeared in \u201cThe New York Times,\u201d \u201cThe Wall Street Journal,\u201d \u201cThe Guardian,\u201d \u201cThe Atlantic,\u201d NPR and more. &nbsp;Her debut documentary \u201cBlack Snow\u201d (2024) was executive produced by Erin Brockovich and premiered at CPH:DOX before going on to screen at more than 20 international film festivals. &nbsp;Simone has won numerous awards for her work, including the Cinema Eye Honors Spotlight Award, the F:ACT Award at CPH:DOX, the Sustainable Future Award at Sydney Film Festival, and the International Green Film Award from Cinema for Peace. \u201cBlack Snow\u201d is being distributed in the United States by PBS as part of the 2025-26 season of its \u201cPOV\u201d series. Simone is the recipient of fellowships from NYSCA\/NYFA, Film Independent and Mountainfilm and has taught the art of nonfiction writing at Yale University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vi\u00f1ayo is an award-winning documentary film director, writer and producer. Since 2013, she has been based in El Salvador, where she founded her production company, La Jaula Abierta Films. Vi\u00f1ayo\u2019s feature film \u201cCachada: The Opportunity\u201d (2019) and short film \u201cUnforgivable\u201d (2020) have won awards at international film festivals such as SXSW, IDFA, Hot Docs,<br>Slamdance, Palm Springs ShortFest, Guanajuato International Film Festival, Sebastopol Documentary Film Festival and DocsBarcelona, and have been selected at over 150 film festivals in more than 30 countries, including Telluride Film Festival, AFI DOCS, G\u00f6teborg Film Festival, Heartland International Film Festival and Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival. In 2021, Vi\u00f1ayo won the Gabo Award and was named Ibero-American Filmmaker of the Year at POY Latam. She was nominated for an IDA Documentary Award in 2020 and an Emmy\u00ae Award in 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The world of film\u2014from its boldest directors to its most compelling actors\u2014has been deeply intertwined with the history of CHANEL since the House\u2019s inception. Founder Gabrielle Chanel collaborated with leading filmmakers of her time, drawing inspiration from and supporting fellow creatives. Her legacy of championing women in the arts lives on through the brand\u2019s ongoing commitment to uplifting their voices in film, exemplified by programs such as the Academy Gold Fellowship for Women and other longstanding industry partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 2025 fellows were selected from a group of six finalists.
