Solis today issued a local emergency proclamation in response to the anticipated arrival of El Ni\u00f1o conditions in California, strengthening coordination among County departments and state partners ahead of the 2026-27 storm season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEl Ni\u00f1o could bring heavier rainfall and increase the risk of flooding, landslides and debris flows across Los Angeles County, and we cannot wait for the first storm to act,\u201d said <strong>Board Chair Solis.<\/strong> \u201cThis proclamation strengthens our ability to coordinate resources and respond quickly, but preparation starts now. I am committed to ensuring residents have the information, resources and support they need to protect themselves, their families and their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">El Ni\u00f1o is expected to bring heavier rainfall to Southern California, increasing the risk of flooding, landslides, debris flows and other hazards across Los Angeles County. County departments are taking steps to prepare, including strengthening emergency response and communication systems through the Office of Emergency Management and Countywide Communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Public Works is conducting inspections and maintenance of flood control infrastructure and preparing sandbag distribution sites. Residents can also get sandbags at County distribution sites before heavy rain arrives.
