The kickoff event for the 2019 The Asian World Film Festival was held on Oct.\u00a021 at Culver City. In attendance were the festival committee members, as well as about 200 film industry guests from Hollywood.<\/span><\/p>\n

Guests enjoyed gourmet Chinese cuisine and open bar provided by the hosts.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 5th Annual\u00a0Asian World Film Festival<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(AWFF) returns to\u00a0Culver City<\/span>\u00a0beginning on\u00a0November 6th<\/span>\u00a0and ending on\u00a0November 14th, 2019<\/span>. Premieres and exciting film-related events will be held throughout the nine-day festival at the Arclight Cinema in\u00a0Culver City<\/span>. Beloved Asian actress\u00a0Nancy Kwan<\/span>\u00a0(Flower Drum Song,\u00a0<\/i>The World of\u00a0Suzie Wong<\/span>)<\/i>\u00a0will receive the\u00a0Lifetime Achievement Award<\/i>\u00a0and Director\u00a0Lena Khan<\/span>\u00a0will be awarded the\u00a0Red Cross\/Courage to Dream Award<\/i>\u00a0on Opening Night,\u00a0November 6th<\/span>. In addition, Jury President,\u00a0Meryem Uzerli\u00a0<\/b>will present the 2019 jurors at the Opening Night Ceremony.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Executive Director\u00a0Georges Chamchoun\u00a0stated, “We are beginning our fifth year and it seems it was only yesterday we ventured into this wonderful Adventure with a Mission \u2013 and the Mission is now a reality!\u00a0Asia\u00a0is in the spotlight in\u00a0Hollywood\u00a0and Asian-Americans rightly have their place in the sun. From\u00a0Lisa Lu\u00a0to Awkwafina last year, and from\u00a0Nancy Kwan\u00a0to Meryem Uzerli this year\u2026 the circle keeps on growing!”<\/span><\/p>\n

All films that participate will have a unique chance to be guided through the challenging awards season and showcased to members of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and all Guilds for enhanced exposure, media attention and awards consideration.<\/span><\/p>\n

This year\u00a0The Hollywood Foreign Press Association<\/a><\/u>\u00a0(HFPA) and the Asian World Film Festival will give out the first\u00a0HFPA Snow Leopard Scholarship<\/em>\u00a0to a new Asian filmmaker. Up to twelve selected Asian short films, which must be produced and\/or directed by an Asian filmmaker, will be screened during the AWFF’s short film programs and the award presented during a special ceremony reception.<\/span><\/p>\n
