Solis Proclaims October 25, 2025 as Larry Itliong Day

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Los Angeles County Chair Pro Tem and First District Supervisor Hilda L. Solis issued the following statement on her motion proclaiming Oct. 25, 2025, as Larry Itliong Day:

“Larry Itliong’s fearless advocacy helped shape the modern labor movement. From leading the Delano grape strike in 1965 to uniting Filipino and Latino farmworkers in historic solidarity, his legacy laid the foundation for the creation of the United Farm Workers of America and the first successful farmworkers union in U.S. history.

Beyond California, his work extended globally, organizing with farm laborers in Brazil and Chile, and helping to create a retirement community for aging Filipino farmworkers in the United States.

As we celebrate Filipino American History Month, Larry Itliong Day serves as a powerful reminder of the essential role Filipino Americans have played in advancing justice, dignity, and equality for workers.

Los Angeles County honors his extraordinary contributions and reaffirms our commitment to uplifting the stories and struggles of communities too often left out of history.”
